July 24, 2018 Delivery

July 22, 2018

The wonderful ladies of Quilting for Kids gathered at the home of Carol Schmidt for a lunch and a sharing of their quilts and quilting methods. This gathering was a prequel to the planned delivery of 149 quilts and other kid-friendly items to the Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital on July 24th.  At these lunchtime gatherings, the ladies share stories, methods, and show their completed work to each other, making each meeting an art fest, as these quilts are all works of art, as well as works of love.  As unpleasant is the prospect of a child having to visit the hospital because they are ill, these quilts helps to place a smile on their faces. The shared love continues. Here is a small sample of the ladies and their works of love.

Hospital Delivery April 10, 2018

April 8, 2018

The wonderful women of Quilting for Kids gathered once again for a luncheon discussion and exchange of quilts, this occasion at Jayne Ortiz’ home in Concord. The occasion was prompted by a planned delivery of quilts to the hospital next Tuesday, the 10th of April. Various issues prevented all of the contributing women from participating, but all of the contributing women’s quilts were shared with the group, so the ladies were there in spirit. Here are a few pictures taken during the discussion phase of this meeting. The quilts continue to be amazingly beautiful and the ill children who are the intended recipients will be made a bit happier as a result of receiving these fine quilts. We should note that the women create more than quilts for the kids at the hospital. There are crocheted and knitted blankets, crocheted “snuggle bunnies” for kids to hold, IV sleeves that cover a kid’s arm while receiving an IV, and little dresses the kids can use to cover a doll. All in all, each item is designed to make a sick child feel a little bit better.

The wonderful women of Quilting for Kids gathered at the home of Carol Schmidt on Saturday, January 20, 2018 for a luncheon and to deliver and share their quilts prior to delivery to the hospital. The hospital delivery was made on January 23. 2018.
The ladies always exchange information about the quilts they lovingly create and then show off their quilts, blankets, hats and other snugglies. QFK women now create quilts, crocheted blankets, snugglebunnies, crocheted hats, IV covers and other items the kids can use to smile again.
Here are a few pictures from the luncheon gathering:

After a very successful and entertaining luncheon on Saturday, the quilts, blankets and other assorted goodies, 260 in all, were delivered to the Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital on Tuesday, January 23rd. The women managing the delivery, Carol Schmidt and Jayne Ortiz, were also given the privilege of personally handing their quilts to three of the kids who are being cared for at the hospital. A few smiles from the kids helps to make this wonderful work a truly worthy enterprise.
Ladies you should be proud of your hard work.

Quilters gather: June 24, 2017

June 25, 2017

The magical ladies of Quilting for Kids gathered at the home of Carol Schmidt for a luncheon and discussion of their works and their newest creations.  The quilters made another donation of quilts, crocheted/knitted blankets, snugglebunnies, and a new item–IV covers, which provide protection for the kids who may receive IVs in their treatment.  All of the wondrous products made by these women will be delivered Monday to the Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital in Concord.  The turnout for this meeting was modest, since a number of the quilters had other engagements for the lunchtime event. However, the turnout of new quilt donations was beyond modest. All told, 178 items will be delivered.

And this morning, June 25th the quilts, snuggle bunnies and other items were delivered to the caring nurses at the Children’s Center. Debbie Morse, Jayne Ortiz, carol Schmidt and Pamela Skillman participated in making the actual delivery. Here they are outside the playroom at the Center after handing over the quilts.
